Hello Fellow Holstein Enthusiasts,
First off I would like to introduce myself as your new Iowa Holstein Princess, Anna Troester. I grew up in Garnavillo which is in Clayton County. My family and I own and operate MAARS Holsteins where we milk 102 registered Holsteins. Next fall, I will be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville majoring in Animal Science with a dairy emphasis and a Biology minor. My plans are to continue in the Holstein industry in some way.
Summer is almost here, showing season has begun, and will be in full force come June. I want to congratulate the breeders on their accomplishments who exhibited at the Midwest Spring National Show. I don’t know about other Holstein breeders but I can’t wait to get into the showring and meet other Holstein breeders from across the state at district shows, state show, and state fair. I am also excited for the Holstein picnic and other activities that I will be involved in. Next, I want to thank Katie Fober for doing a great job last year and answering my many questions I had.
This past March, I helped pass out slips at the Iowa Spring Sale and decorated the sale ring. This was great fun and with the help of Carly Lyons, the Winneshiek County Dairy Princess, we were able to get the job done. I met a lot of new dairy enthusiasts and was able to catch up with old friends. In April, I served ice cream at the Springtime in the Heartland II sale. Congratulations to Scott and Amy Courtney on a successful sale.
As June gets closer, we look forward to it being June Dairy Month. During this month, we as Holstein enthusiasts are able to promote a product that we love to produce each and everyday. If you are in need of help for promotions, please contact me. A good resource for information for dairy products is www.midwestdairy.com.
I am looking forward to a great, interacting, interesting summer. If you ever have any questions, need any help, or have suggestions, please contact me. My phone number is (563) 880-4797 or you can email me at troestera@uwplatt.edu. I look forward to hearing from you. I am in the planning process of putting together a dairy day at the Cedar Rapids Kernels with my cousin Seth who is the Stadium Operations Manager for the Kernels. Look for more information to come.
Finally, I would like to wish all of the junior members heading to Minnesota the best of luck in all of their competitions. I know I will be there cheering everyone as I will be representing Iowa on the senior quiz bowl team. I, along with every other junior want to thank other Holstein enthusiasts for their continued support. Without you, we wouldn’t have the programs we have today.
Have a wonderful summer and happy showing,
Anna Troester
