Hello to all fellow Holstein enthusiasts! It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as your new Iowa Holstein Princess for 2008. As many of you may know, I’m Kaitlin Hanson, daughter of Randy and Lisa Hanson. We milk about 140 registered Holsteins and a few registered Jerseys on our farm that is located about 10 miles south of Decorah.
I am currently a senior at Iowa State University where I have just finished my third year in the Dairy Science program this spring. On campus I am involved with Dairy Science club where I am currently serving as vice president and am a two year co-editor of our yearbook Squirts 'n Kicks. I am also a member of the Block and Bridle club and Cardinal Key Honorary Society. Upon graduation next spring, I plan on pursuing a career in marketing and advertising for a company in the dairy industry, while continuing to own registered Holsteins with my parents.
I have already hit the ground running since being crowned princess at the Holstein Convention in February in Decorah. I have had the opportunity to pass sales slips at the Spring Sale in March. Here many Holstein producers from across the state gathered to see the success of another Iowa Holstein sale with the purchase of many herd-building cows backed by generations of genetics. In addition, I helped the Dairy Science club sell ice cream to VEISHEA attendees.
I am looking forward to the coming summer months where I hope to see many faces from across the state at the state and district Holstein shows. In addition to attending the many events this summer, I will also be interning for the Minnesota Holstein Association as their public relations intern. If anyone has anything that they would like help with, please feel free to contact me via email at kaitlinhanson@gmail.com or by phone 563-382-8571, and I would be happy to help out. I look forward to seeing everyone this summer!
With Holstein love, happy readings!
